Burst flexi hoses rarely give a warning. One split hose under a sink can release water at full mains pressure and keep running until someone finds it.
We install automatic flood stop valves on the Gold Coast to cut off water fast during a burst and reduce the risk of major water damage.
We install flood stop valves between the isolation tap and the flexible hose. If a hose bursts and the flow spikes suddenly, the valve shuts off automatically.
Simple upgrade. Big impact. It can be the difference between drying a cabinet and repairing half the house.
Over 22% of insurance water claims are now due to these ticking time bombs. We’ll inspect the hoses most people never think about, then install shut-off protection where it really matters.
Auto flood stop valve installation, Gold Coast has become a critical installation in many homes. Flexi hoses do not always fail slowly. Some fail wide open.
That means water can keep running at mains pressure inside a cabinet, behind a vanity, or in the laundry, even when nobody is home. By the time you notice it, the damage is already done.
And here’s the problem. A hose can look completely normal right before it fails.
❌ Age and internal wear
❌ Corrosion at fittings and crimps
❌ Twists, kinks, and strain inside tight cabinets
❌ Heat near hot water lines
❌ High pressure or pressure surges
❌Low-quality hoses or mismatched parts

Tick 2 or more, and it’s time to book an audit. Tick 4 or more, and don’t leave it any longer.
✅ Your home is 10+ years old, and you do not know the age of the flexi hoses.
✅ No under-sink inspection has been done in the kitchen, bathrooms, or laundry
✅ Any hose shows rust, corrosion, fraying, bulging, cracks, or staining
✅ Hoses are kinked, twisted, stretched, or rubbing on sharp edges
✅ An isolation tap is stuck, leaking, or does not shut off fully
✅ You hear water hammer or banging pipes
✅ You suspect high water pressure or pressure surges
✅ You live in a unit or townhouse where a leak could affect other lots
✅ You are away often, so a leak could go unnoticed
✅ You have musty smells, damp patches, or swollen cabinetry
✅ A fixture was replaced recently, and the installation quality is uncertain
Next step: Book a Whole-of-House Flexi & Flood Stop Audit.
A flood stop safety valve activates if the flexible connector hose attached to the tap bursts.
When that happens, the valve immediately shuts off water to that hose without affecting the other water outlets on the property.
That matters because one failed hose under a sink can cause major flooding fast. This valve is designed to stop that worst-case outcome at the fixture.
One of the major advantages of this patented flood-stop device is its reset process.
When you discover the burst hose and turn the isolation tap handle to the off position to allow the hose to be replaced, the flood stop valve resets automatically.
There are no special tools required. You do not need to remove pressure from the water supply line just to reset the valve.
This is the honest part. Flood stop valves are designed for sudden burst-style high flow, not every tiny drip.
That’s why we do more than fit one part and hope for the best. We also inspect the hoses, the isolation taps, and pressure-related risks.
In 2025, new national plumbing standards under AS/NZS 3500.4 – 2025 Clause 10.10 and AS/NZS 3500.1 – 2025 Clause 5.4.2 introduced stricter legal requirements for isolating valves when a flexible hose assembly is installed. Specifically:
🔧Clause 10.10.2 (j) mandates that an isolating valve must be installed immediately before each flexible hose assembly connected to a mixer valve or tap outlet.
🔧 Clause 5.4.2 (l) states that isolating valves shall be installed immediately before each flexible hose assembly connected to a mixer valve, tap outlet or cistern.
This means:
✅All flexihoses installed or replaced must be connected to a compliant, easily accessible isolation valve.
❌Non-compliance may result in insurance rejections, fines during inspections, and potentially serious legal consequences.
❌Not adhering to these sensible standard updates means you are breaking the law in Queensland.
At Whywait Plumbing, we recommend installing auto-shutoff flood stop valves to ensure every flexihose installation fully complies with these updated standards, is AS/NZS 3500-compliant, and is future-proof.
We commonly install them at:
✅ Kitchen sink mixers
✅ Vanity basin mixers
✅ Laundry tub connections
✅ Toilet connections, where suitable
✅ Some appliance points, depending on the model and layout
If you live in a unit, this matters even more. Water damage can spread quickly into adjoining lots.
These fit between the isolation tap and the flexi hose. They are neat, compact, and often quick to install.
They suit many sinks and vanities, but access and cabinet layout still matter.
These combine shut-off control with burst protection. Some models include reset functions.
They can be an excellent option in the right cabinet, but not every model suits every fixture.
We match the valve to the application. No guessing. No forcing the wrong part to fit.
High pressure places extra stress on hoses and fittings. Pressure swings can be even worse.
If your pressure is too high, hoses can wear out faster. Some shut-off devices can also behave poorly when pressure is unstable.

If you’ve noticed banging pipes or water hammer, tell us when you book. That detail matters.
✅ Confirm the fixture type, hose size, and access
✅ Check that the isolation tap works properly
✅ Check pressure where practical
✅ Install the valve in the correct position and direction
✅ Test operation and normal fixture use
✅Explain what to do if the valve ever trips
We keep the job tidy, and we explain what we’ve done and how to use the auto shut off valve in plain English.
Truth: Many failed hoses looked fine beforehand.
Truth: Some failures release water at full mains pressure. A burst flexihose is never a drip or slow leak.
Truth: Many floods from a burst flexihose start while nobody is home or when everyone is asleep in bed.
Truth: Even when claims are paid, the disruption is real. The damage to precious items is real. The lengthy process of remediation and repairs cannot be underestimated.
Truth: Most are designed for sudden high-flow burst events, not every tiny drip.
Truth: Any flexi connection can become a risk point. Always remember there are two flexihoses connected to every tap and one to every toilet cistern.
Truth: Water pressure spikes add stress and increase the risk of failure on a flexihose, especially if pressure exceeds 500 kPa.
Best for most homes. We inspect visible flexi hoses, isolation taps, pressure warning signs, and the fixtures most likely to cause major water damage.
Best when you already know the main risk point. We install a suitable valve at one fixture and test its operation.
Best when hoses already look old or suspect. We inspect the hoses and replace any that are risky.
Best when you have pressure problems or water hammer. We test pressure, explain the result, and advise whether pressure control is needed.
Not sure where to start? Book the audit. It’s the safest first step for most homes.
This is the smarter starting point for most households because it removes the guesswork.
✅Visible flexi hoses for age, corrosion, fraying, bulges, and kinks
✅ Isolation taps for access and shut-off function.
✅ Signs of minor leaks, staining, and moisture damage
✅ Pressure red flags and surge symptoms
✅ Higher-risk areas like laundries, kitchens, and upstairs bathrooms
✅ Replace problem hoses where appropriate
✅ Install flood stop valves at priority fixtures.
✅ Give you a simple action plan for anything else.e
You’ll know what looks safe, what needs watching, and what needs action now.
That’s completely fine. Many homeowners start this way.
Stage 1: Kitchen and main bathroom vanity
Stage 2: Laundry and toilets
Stage 3: Remaining bathrooms and suitable appliance points
You do not have to do everything today. But it makes sense to start before a weak hose decides for you.
Yes. Some flexi hose failures happen at full mains pressure, and they often start inside a cabinet where nobody sees them straight away.
It can greatly reduce the risk of uncontrolled flooding from a burst hose. It may not stop every very small leak, depending on the model.
Usually, between the hot and cold water connections and the flexible hose at the fixture connection.
Not always. Many homes start with the highest-risk fixtures first, then add more protection in stages.
Kitchens, bathroom vanities, laundries, and toilets are common risk points. Upstairs bathrooms can be especially damaging if a hose bursts.
We select the right valve for the application, test it after installation, and show you how to reset it if needed.
Sometimes. It depends on the valve type, the fixture, and the operating conditions. We confirm suitability before installation.
Yes, often you should. A flood stop valve adds protection, but it does not make an old, failing hose safe.
Single installations are usually quick. Whole-of-house audits depend on access and the number of fixtures.
Yes, in many cases. We can also provide reports for owners, managers, and property stakeholders, as needed, to verify the work undertaken.

I can highly recommend them !Posted on David LinnegarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the initial contact to the plumbers getting out on site the whole process to fix a leak on the propoerty side of the water meter was A plus. Gary was brilliant in answering the multitude of questions via email I sent before we got the visit locked in. Lachy and Ben arrived on site exactly when we were told they would and identified the location of the leak and had it fixed super fast. They even answered questions for me about other works I wanted done to the house so will be reaching out again in the very near future to get the guttering on the whole house replaced. Highly recommend the team!Posted on Ben JonesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It is a nice change to deal with a trade group that charges fairly, turns up when they’re supposed to and provides good advice and high quality workmanship. We had a new filter tap, replacement Insinkerator and replacement gas cooktop supplied and installed and we're very happy with the products and the installation. I would have no hesitation in recommending Whywait for your plumbing/gas fitting requirements.Posted on Scott GCTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot fault the service provided by Gary from Whywait Plumbing Services. He responded early on a Sunday morning to an urgent request to fix a broken tap (which turned out to be quite a complicated repair job) and worked on it until it was completely fixed. I'm extremely grateful for Gary's professionalism and expertise and wouldn't consider calling anyone else. Thank you, Gary!!Posted on Robert HurlockTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
