What Are The Minimum Requirements For Charging Tenants For Water?

Landlords and rental property owners can only charge tenants for water consumed by providing:

• the rental property has an individual water meter
• the rental property has been certified as water-efficient and had a Water Efficiency Certificate issued
• the signed tenancy agreement specifically states that the tenant must pay for all water consumed

What Gold Coast Water Charges Can a Tenant Be Billed For?

When you receive your property’s quarterly Gold Coat Water bill, there are several charges on the bill, which are:

• Sewerage Service – Fixed Access Charge: tenants cannot be charged this cost as its an access fee to connect to the sewer system
• Water Service – Fixed Access Charge: tenants cannot be charged this cost as its an access fee to connect to the water distribution system
• Water Consumption – this will indicate how many kilolitres have been consumed at $1.181 per kilolitre, and the tenant is responsible for paying this charge.
• State Bulk Water Price – this will show how many kilolitres have been consumed at $3.301  per kilolitre, and the tenant is responsible for paying this charge.
